BEDMAS escape room

WALT use BEDMAS in our escape rooms

Today and yesterday in maths we have been creating escape rooms with questions about BEDMAS. My slides were all pretty much the same, so it is a bit rushed, but I still think it is good. I hope you like it and learn something while playing it! REMEMBER THE RULES OF BEDMAS! Good luck! 🙂

SLJ Groove Pizza beats

WALT use Groove Pizza to create our own music

Yesterday’s SLJ task was creating music on an app called Groove Pizza. We had to press different buttons to make different music and we could also change the genre of music. For example, we could choose from: Techno, Rock, Hip-Hop, Afro-Latin and Jazz. I used all those different types of music in mine, except for Afro-Latin. I hope you like the music!

SLJ Comic strip

WALT create our own comic strips

Today the Summer Learning Journey started for real, and the first task was to create a comic strip on google slides. We had to watch a video about how to create a comic strip. The theme for the comic was a beach. I have added an arrow on each slide. Just press it to move on to the next slide. Mine is about two monsters playing with a beach ball, until it gets lost. I hope you like it! 🙂

Week 9 Taskboard Tasks

(there is no WALT)

This week for the Taskboard I finished one of the create tasks super speedily because we had to create an AI image on an app called Craiyon for the Summer Learning Journey. It had to be a superhero of your choice and you had to create a google doc describing what powers it would have, it’s personality and appearance. Here is my Google doc and Sloth Superhero:

Personality:

Smart

Helpful

Brave

Active

Nice

Abilities:

Telekinesis

Laser eyes

Flying

Super strength

Appearance:

Furry

Blue, yellow and green suit

Red mask

Brown fur

The second SLJ teaser activity was to create an ENEMY for the superhero. I created some on a drawing app called Kleki. I really liked all of them, and I couldn’t decide which one should be Super Sloth’s nemesis, so, I used all of them. Their names are (from left to right) King Blob, The Smudger, WhirlWind and Chez.

The next Tasboard activity I finished was maths. We had to create a symmetrical name monster, where you spell your name on a piece of paper, fold it in half, and trace your name on the other side of the paper. It looked pretty good, but that wasn’t even the cool part yet. We then had to add some monster features to it so it looked a bit like a creature. Once they were done, they looked real good. I created 2 of them. A practice one, which was really small, and my good one, which was the proper size. I hope you enjoy! 🙂

The final Taskboard task I completed was Writing. It was to create a school report… about a teacher! I chose to do mine about Mrs Lee because I had a great idea for what I could do for it. It had to include their grade, strengths, improvements and a general comment. I hope you like it!

Taskboard Tasks

(there is no WALT)

This week, since we have had swimming, we are working on a task board instead of normal work. There were 5 things on the task board and you had to finish and blog at least 3 of the activities. I finished 3 activities. I finished the maths task, the  PB4L task and the Reading task. The maths task was to create a tessellation of shapes on our chromebooks. The PB4L task was to watch a video about empathy and fill out a poster about what empathy looks like, sounds like and feels like. And finally, the reading task was a slideshow about what you would do if you ran a school. It had to include what the school would look like, what the uniforms would look like, the rules, age group, etc. I worked on what the school would look like with Kieran, and we only used shapes and lines to create it. (except for the writing, of course.) I hope you like them!

Reading week 7

WALT think critically about texts

Hello,

This week in reading, the journal stories had to do with sports. There were three create tasks and I somehow managed to complete all of them. The first Create task was to create a Sports Star Fact File. We had to choose a New Zealand athlete from a list. I chose Hamish Kerr, as I knew he was a high jumper.

The second Create task was to create a Canva video including facts about the sport your journal was about. My journal was called At the game and it was about rugby. So here it is:

The third and final create task was to create a Fantasy sports player profile. You had to add your dream sports career, stats, country, club, etc.

Persuasive writing: Mufti vs Uniform

WALT learn and write about persuasive texts

This term and a bit of last term, for writing we have been focusing on Persuasive writing. We had to write about what we think is better clothing to wear to school: mufti or uniform. I chose mufti because I think it is more fun to wear mufti to school. I had to come up with heaps of ideas why I think Mufti is better, write them down, type it up and now, put it on my blog. I spent quite a lot of time on it and I hope you can agree with me that mufti is better than uniform.

Mufti BETTER!

Introduction

If we had a vote between what is better clothing to wear to school: uniform or mufti, I could guarantee that more people would choose mufti. What would you prefer? Today I will be telling you why I think mufti is better than a boring, uncomfortable, unnecessary uniform.

Paragraph 1: Better variety of clothes to wear

If we are allowed to wear mufti to school, we can wear something different everyday! You will also get a chance to wear some of your clothes that you haven’t worn before. There is a better variety of clothes to wear to school if you wear mufti. The school uniform is pretty much just the same thing every single day! The school will look more bright and colourful if we can wear mufti to school, because not everybody will be wearing blue.

Paragraph 2: Comfortable clothes

It will be more comfortable if we can wear mufti to school. Say if you are doing training for Athletics or Cross Country, and you don’t know you are, if you’re wearing mufti, you will be wearing more comfortable and appropriate footwear for the different activities.

Paragraph 3: Easier to recognise

It will be easier for the teachers to recognise people because teachers usually get kids mixed up for a different kid, but if we wear mufti, since everybody will probably be wearing different clothes, so the chances of the teachers getting kids mixed up is low. Some other reasons why wearing mufti to school is better is because, more kids will be happy that we get to wear mufti to school, there is no cost to buy a uniform, because you already have clothes at home, and the teachers get to wear mufti, so why can’t we?

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is so obvious that wearing mufti to school is WAAAAY better than a uniform because it is more comfy, colourful and you don’t have to pay for silly uniforms. If you are on Team Uniform, I hope I have changed your mind. Because MUFTI IS BETTER!

PB4L Week 5: Can/Can’t control

WALT recognise our own emotions

Hello guys,

This week in PB4L we created a poster in Canva about what we can and can’t control. I couldn’t really think of many things, so it hasn’t gotten much on it yet. I will edit and update this post when it is finished, though. For the meantime, I hope you enjoy the poster that I made. 😀

Week 5 reading :)

WALT show a developing understanding of ideas across the texts

Hello guys!

Since I usually read in Ruru, I had a different create task than the Kereru Readers. The create task was to watch the trailers for some movies, and then use your knowledge and create a movie trailer about your journal. My journal story was called The Short Cut and it was about a boy and his mum going to the United States to meet up with some friends. All the characters in the trailer are played by me. I hope you like it, and get a good laugh out of it. 😆 😀 (Sorry if the bakery scene glitches a bit. It’s because I removed the background of the picture of me)

Here was my plan for it:

This story was about a boy called Elliot who goes to the USA with his mum to meet up with his friend Sean. When they meet them at the airport, they take off straight away and go to see Bryce Canyon.  They get some food at a bakery, and the baker gives them a shortcut. “It’s really beautiful and it will save you about 100 kilometres.” He says.  They take his advice and take the shortcut. But it doesn’t go exactly as planned…

Reading week 4 :)

WALT show a developing understanding of ideas across the texts

Hello, guys this week we had 3 create tasks that had to do with water safety. The description of the journal I read is below. This is counted as Create Task 3.

Look, listen, swim summary

This week in reading I read a journal story called Look, Listen, Swim.

It was about a swimming class whose teacher was teaching the students to swim freestyle, but they weren’t in the water. When they get into the water, though, they realize that their instructor’s advice was very helpful.

I didn’t really enjoy this book because it was a bit boring and didn’t make very much sense at times. But, I recommend this book to people who aren’t very good at freestyle swimming, because it gives you some tips on how to swim.

Create tasks 1 & 2:

CT 1: Swimming slideshow

CT 2: Poster on how to be safe at the beach and pool
