Reading week 7

WALT think critically about texts

Hello,

This week in reading, the journal stories had to do with sports. There were three create tasks and I somehow managed to complete all of them. The first Create task was to create a Sports Star Fact File. We had to choose a New Zealand athlete from a list. I chose Hamish Kerr, as I knew he was a high jumper.

The second Create task was to create a Canva video including facts about the sport your journal was about. My journal was called At the game and it was about rugby. So here it is:

The third and final create task was to create a Fantasy sports player profile. You had to add your dream sports career, stats, country, club, etc.

WALT show a developing understanding of ideas across the texts

Hello guys!

Since I usually read in Ruru, I had a different create task than the Kereru Readers. The create task was to watch the trailers for some movies, and then use your knowledge and create a movie trailer about your journal. My journal story was called The Short Cut and it was about a boy and his mum going to the United States to meet up with some friends. All the characters in the trailer are played by me. I hope you like it, and get a good laugh out of it. 😆 😀 (Sorry if the bakery scene glitches a bit. It’s because I removed the background of the picture of me)

Here was my plan for it:

This story was about a boy called Elliot who goes to the USA with his mum to meet up with his friend Sean. When they meet them at the airport, they take off straight away and go to see Bryce Canyon.  They get some food at a bakery, and the baker gives them a shortcut. “It’s really beautiful and it will save you about 100 kilometres.” He says.  They take his advice and take the shortcut. But it doesn’t go exactly as planned…

Reading week 4 :)

WALT show a developing understanding of ideas across the texts

Hello, guys this week we had 3 create tasks that had to do with water safety. The description of the journal I read is below. This is counted as Create Task 3.

Look, listen, swim summary

This week in reading I read a journal story called Look, Listen, Swim.

It was about a swimming class whose teacher was teaching the students to swim freestyle, but they weren’t in the water. When they get into the water, though, they realize that their instructor’s advice was very helpful.

I didn’t really enjoy this book because it was a bit boring and didn’t make very much sense at times. But, I recommend this book to people who aren’t very good at freestyle swimming, because it gives you some tips on how to swim.

Create tasks 1 & 2:

CT 2: Poster on how to be safe at the beach and pool

Holiday create task

WALT show a developing understanding of ideas across the text.

Hello!

This week for reading, the create tasks had to do with holidays. The book I read was called Happy new year and it was about a family who go to the great barrier for new years. But there is a strict fire ban and some flares go off. The first create task was to create a slideshow about where you would go for your dream holiday, what you would pack, and stuff like that. I chose to go to Mexico, because I really like Mexican food. Here is my slideshow:

Des Hunt :-D

WALT know the author and their background

This term for reading I am doing a novel study. The book is called The phantom of Terawhiti. The author is Des Hunt, who is a NZ author. Our create task was to read a text about him and put them in an all about the author poster. I tried really hard and I hope you like the information I put in. 🙂

Kereru-Reading week 5

WALT use scanning skills to summarise key information in texts

This week for reading I read about Kereru which are wood pigeons that are native to New Zealand I really enjoyed reading about them. These weeks create tasks were the same as last week, create task 1 being a note taking sheet we used in writing and create task 2 being the canva video. I hope you enjoy learning facts about them while reading my note taking sheet and watching my video. 🙂

Reading week 4 – Weta :)

WALT use scanning skills to summarise key info in texts.

For reading we are learning about lots of different endangered animals. This week i decided to read about weta.

I learnt lots about weta when reading about them. There were 2 create tasks this week. One of them was to categorize facts about the animal you read about in these 5 categories: Physical description, habitat, diet, life expectancy and dangers to the animal. Once you had finished you had to create a video on Canva including some of the facts from the first create task. I enjoyed reading about Weta this week. These are my finished create tasks.
